Aims and scope
AJHS publishes research that contributes to the understanding and advancement of academic fields related to help and support for individuals facing social challenges. The scope includes, but is not limited to, interdisciplinary studies in medicine, nursing, social welfare, education, economics, and psychology, as well as research addressing various aspects of human needs and support systems. AJHS welcomes work that demonstrates social significance in promoting well-being, improving quality of life, or enhancing assistance across diverse human service contexts. In addition, the journal values research that offers meaningful societal impact when its methods are scientifically sound and ethically compliant. Its scope therefore extends beyond the core areas of human services to encompass a wide range of related disciplines, including interdisciplinary studies and any fields that meaningfully engage with issues relevant to human support and social development.

AJHS is an open-access journal, and all content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license. The journal is also committed to the permanent preservation of its published content and to maintaining long-term accessibility for readers. It is indexed in major scholarly databases, including Scopus, J-STAGE, and CiNii*. AJHS also upholds clear and transparent policies regarding advertising and direct marketing related to its publications.

Manuscript Review and Publication Process
Submitted manuscripts first undergo an initial screening by the editorial office, which evaluates their suitability for the journal’s scope and checks essential elements required for scientific publication. If a submission is deemed insufficient at this stage, it may be returned to the author together with an explanation. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to two reviewers under a double-blind review system. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editorial office informs the author of the review outcome and, when necessary, requests revisions. If revisions are required, the author and editorial office proceed through repeated cycles of revision and confirmation until the manuscript reaches an acceptable level of quality, at which point it is accepted for publication. After acceptance, an APC estimate is sent to the author or to the contact designated by the author. Once the estimate is approved, an invoice is issued and payment is requested. When payment has been confirmed, the manuscript is treated as finalized for publication, and the editorial office assigns it to an issue, taking into account the journal’s production schedule.
Annual publication schedule
AJHS follows an annual publication schedule as outlined below. The journal recognizes that timely dissemination of research is essential to the advancement of academic fields, and therefore continues to refine and improve its peer-review and editorial processes. The schedule is not fixed permanently and may be adjusted as the journal strives to enhance its operational structure. Readers are encouraged to check for the most up-to-date information. Any changes to the schedule or related announcements will be communicated through email notifications to society members, updates on this website, and posts on the official social media channels.

Publication fees
The publication services of AJHS are supported by an article-processing charge (APC). AJHS is an independently funded journal, and the APC serves as its primary source of revenue for sustaining operational costs. The APC supports expenses such as website maintenance and honoraria for those involved in the publication process, thereby enabling the continued operation of the journal.
The APC of AJHS is billed once a manuscript has been accepted following peer review. The APC amount listed below is subject to change and is not permanently fixed, so readers are encouraged to check for the most up-to-date information. Any revisions to the APC will be announced through email notifications to society members, updates on this website, and posts on the official social media channels.
| Journal | APC | Tax included | Payment Method | Applicable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AJHS | 77,000 JPY | 10% | PayPal* | Articles published in Vol. 30, No. 1 and onwards |
In principle, invoicing is carried out through the PayPal system; however, if the use of PayPal is difficult, alternative arrangements will be proposed on an individual basis. Please note that APC payments cannot be refunded, even if the author withdraws the manuscript after payment, due to the nature of the publication process.
> For information on the payment procedure, please refer to this page.
APC Waivers and Reductions
Authors may request an APC waiver or reduction at the time of manuscript submission if they meet the conditions outlined below. Such requests are not granted automatically; they are considered only when the submitted work is judged to be of particularly high quality and to make a meaningful contribution in line with the mission of AJHS. Eligibility for consideration includes situations in which the APC payer is based in a low-income country, where the definition of low income is assessed using sources such as data from the World Bank or the OECD. Eligibility also includes cases in which the APC payer is a graduate student, provided that documentation confirming student status—such as a student identification card displaying enrollment dates or an official certificate of enrollment—is submitted. In this case, however, the corresponding author must not be the academic supervisor of the student.
